Child in Puducherry tests positive for HMPV, receiving treatment at JIPMER; health officials taking necessary precautions.
“One more child in Puducherry tested positive for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) and is undergoing treatment in the centrally administered JIPMER, in Puducherry,” a top official said.
Director of Health for Puducherry V. Ravichandran, in a release on late Sunday (January 12, 2025), said the girl child complained of fever, cough and running nose. She was admitted to JIPMER a few days ago and has been under treatment. He said the child was recovering well and all precautionary measures had been taken.
Human Metapneumovirus: let’s all calm down first
Puducherry reported the first HMPV (a three-year-old child) last week and was treated in a private hospital. The girl was discharged on Saturday (January 11, 2025) after a full recovery. “The Puducherry administration has geared up all steps in the context of the virus,” the Director said.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
