Govt. is focused on making Vizag Steel Plant thrive again, says Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Lokesh. Endeavour is to achieve peak production at the plant in three months, he says. He also requests Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to give permission to the ArcelorMittal - Nippon Steel for the establishment of a plant near Anakapalli. He says Union IT and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has been receptive to the proposal put forth by him for the development of a data city in Visakhapatnam.
Andhra Pradesh IT and HRD Minister N. Lokesh said the State government was not merely content with the financial package announced for the revival of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), but rather focused on how to make it thrive and contribute back to the nation.
“Our endeavour is to achieve peak production at VSP in three months. We are putting in place the right management and are in the process of clearing the pending bills,” Mr. Lokesh said while addressing the media in New Delhi after meeting Union Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy (Steel and Heavy Industries), Rajnath Singh (Defence), Ashwini Vaishnaw (Railways, Electronics & IT), and Dharmendra Pradhan (Education) on Wednesday.
Mr. Lokesh said he thanked Mr. Kumaraswamy for the support extended for the revival of VSP, and expressed the State government’s commitment to restoring the plant to its past glory, which was bound to take some time as the turnaround could not be achieved overnight.
He requested Mr. Kumaraswamy to give necessary permissions to the ArcelorMittal - Nippon Steel for the establishment of a steel plant near Anakapalli, and conveyed the State government’s wish to have it commissioned by January 2029.
Mr. Lokesh said Mr. Vaishnaw was receptive to the proposal put forth by him for the development of a data city in Visakhapatnam and wanted it to be pursued with all seriousness, and asserted that Andhra Pradesh was poised to bag a lion’s share of the investments pouring into the Artificial Intelligence (AI) landscape on the back of the ecosystem that was under creation.
Mr. Lokesh said he told Mr. Rajnath Singh about the investment and job opportunities in the defense equipment manufacturing sector, especially in Anantapur district, which was positioned as the ideal place to set up defence units as part of the defence cluster planned there by the State government.
Further, Mr. Lokesh said he offered full cooperation on behalf of the State government to Google Cloud for the development of a data city in Visakhapatnam, in his meeting with Google Cloud India MD Bikram Singh. He stated that the AP Economic Development Board was geared up to secure necessary permissions and get land allocated for the facilities.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
