The International Kite and Sweet Festival is being held in Secunderabad from January 13 to 15, 2025.
As kites in the shape of an enormous Gorilla, a frog, an aeroplane and more soared in the sky over Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, children and their parents looked up in amusement on Monday (January 13, 2025).
As the day passed, more parents along with their children made their way into the grounds to watch kite flyers from various States of India, and other countries show their flare at the International Kite and Sweet Festival being held here from January 13 to 15, coinciding with Sankranti. It would be held from 10.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. on the three days, said officials from the Tourism Department. Entry is free of charge.
Apart from the kites, several varieties of sweets, including Telangana’s traditional sweets, were available at food stalls in the venue. Cultural programmes too were held.
Meanwhile, shops selling kites and manja (sharpened string) did brisk business as people bought them ahead of Sankranti. Dhoolpet and Begum Bazaar, which are prominent for selling best of manjas in the city, picked up demand. Hyderabad police have cracked down on the sale of ‘Chinese manja’ (synthetic nylon strings) as it caused serious injuries to people, birds and other beings alike.
