Ten persons were killed and 19 suffered injuries when a truck laden with vegetables and fruits overturned in Arabail ghat region near Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district on Wednesday. The victims were travelling in the truck.
In the other accident, near Sindhanur of Raichur district late on Tuesday night, four persons, including three students of the Sanskrit Vidyapeetha at Mantralayam in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, were killed on the spot and 10 were injured when their multi-utility vehicle overturned.
The drivers losing control of the vehicles is said to have been the reason for the accidents.
The accident in Uttara Kannada left the whole town of Savanur in Haveri district in mourning as 10 families have lost their breadwinners and 19 families are praying for the early recovery of their kin admitted to different hospitals. All of them were vegetable and fruit vendors who were going to the Kumta weekly market.
While one of the deceased was married four months ago, the wife of another deceased is four months pregnant.
The accident has shocked the town, and family members flocked to hospitals in Yellapur and Hubballi, where the injured are being treated.
