Four persons killed in vehicle collision on national highway in Krishnagiri district

Fatal multiple-vehicle collision on Chennai-Krishnagiri National Highway leaves four dead and three injured, police investigating.
Four persons died and three others were injured in a multiple-vehicle collision on Chennai-Krishnagiri National Highway, near Athathimarathupallam, in the district on Sunday.
The police said V. Narayanan, 45, of Sholapur in Maharashtra was driving a lorry carrying a load of onions from Maharashtra to Chennai. When he was near Athathimarathupallam on the highway, he lost control of the vehicle. The lorry crossed the median and collided with another one coming on the opposite side. A minivan, which was coming behind the second lorry, collided with it.
In the accident, Narayanan, lorry drivers R. Arul Jothi, 54, and S. Manikandan, 40, of Dindigul district sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. R. Rajesh, 31, K. Khadeer Basha, 56, and Vijay, 38, of Andhra Pradesh, and V. Badhami, 40, of Maharashtra were injured. They were rushed to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College Hospital.
While Badhami died on the way, the other three have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. The two passengers of the minivan escaped unhurt. Due to the accident, traffic on the stretch was affected for more than an hour. The Bargur police helped clear the snarl.
The Bargur police registered a case and are investigating.
