Forest department launches operation to capture suspected leopard in tunnel at Madanthakode, Kasaragod; officials suspect it's a wild cat.
The Forest department has launched an operation after residents reportedly spotted a leopard inside a tunnel in a private land at Madanthakode in Kuttikole panchayat in Kasaragod on Wednesday evening.
However, officials suspect that it is more likely to be a wild cat than a leopard.
To prevent the animal from escaping, the department has placed a cage at the entrance to the tunnel. Efforts are also on to bring the animal out using a tranquiliser dart.
The tunnel is part of a water supply system. The department is yet to issue an official statement.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
