Six candidates filed nominations for Erode (East) Assembly by-election on February 5, with voting scheduled for February 8.
Six candidates filed their nomination papers on Monday to contest the byelection for the Erode (East) Assembly constituency for which polling is scheduled on February 5.
Returning Officer and Corporation Commissioner N. Manish received the nominations from candidates between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Corporation office. The papers of candidates, upon entering the office, were verified and allowed to file their papers.
Independent candidates who filed their nominations were P. Esakimuthu Nadar of Chennai, H. Mohammed Gaipeer of Erode, J. Gopalakrishnan of 46 Pudur, Erode and R. Rajasekaran from Dadagapatti, Salem. S. Anand of Marumalarchi Janatha Katchi from Dharmapuri and A. Mani of MGR Makkal Katchi from Ramanathapuram also filed their papers.
Nominations are not accepted from January 14 to 16 due to government holidays and January 17 is the last day for filing of nominations. DMK candidate V.C. Chandhirakumar and Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate, who is to be announced on Tuesday, are filing their nomination on January 17.
Scrutiny of the papers will take place on January 18 and the last date for withdrawing candidature is January 20. The counting of votes will take place on February 8, and the election process will conclude by February 10.
