Naam Tamilar Katchi chief accuses DMK of betraying Tamil people, criticizes lack of fulfillment of promises and revenue generation plans.
“When Tamil people were massacred in Sri Lanka, the DMK remained silent. The DMK and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi have committed numerous betrayals against the Tamil people and the Tamil nation,” alleged Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman here on Monday.
Speaking at a public meeting in Sampath Nagar while campaigning for party candidate M.K. Seethalakshmi in the Erode (East) Assembly byelection, he said, “It was due to our inability to tolerate these betrayals that the Naam Tamilar movement was formed.”
He criticised the DMK for failing to fulfill its promises made in its election manifesto and pointed out that there was no mention of property tax or electricity tariff hikes in it. “Apart from the liquor sales, they have no alternative revenue generation plans,” he said.
Mr. Seeman said that while governments across the world had plans to provide free mobile phones and cars, there were no plans to provide them with food. “If there is no water and food in a country, a revolution will erupt as it happened in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh,” he said.
He warned a similar situation could arise here, saying, “I am not here for your votes, but for the country and the next generation... I am not here to deceive people in any way, but want to solve problems by all means,” he said.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
