The result in the byelection to the Erode (East) constituency, which the DMK will win by a huge margin, will serve as a prelude to the “grand victory” in the 2026 Assembly elections, said V.C. Chandhirakumar, the party’s bypoll candidate.
The result of the byelection to the Erode (East) constituency, which the DMK will win by a huge margin, will serve as a prelude to the “grand victory” in the 2026 Assembly elections, said V.C. Chandhirakumar, the party’s bypoll candidate, on Wednesday (February 5, 2025).
Addressing the media after casting his vote with his family at a polling station on Mosuvanna Street in Erode, he said, the byelection necessitated by the demise of Congress legislator E.V.K.S. Elangovan was “a natural one and not an imposed one.”
“In north Indian states, the BJP forces MLAs to resign and conducts byelections in those constituencies. However, here, there is no discontent among the voters regarding the byelection,” he said.
Mr. Chandhirakumar said that he, along with Minister for Housing and Urban Development S. Muthusamy, had campaigned by walking 140 km across 33 wards within the Corporation limits, directly interacting with voters. “There is no dissatisfaction among the electorate regarding the government’s performance. They have put forth certain requests, which we will fulfill,” he said.
He noted that, typically, after four years of governance, some level of dissatisfaction arises among the people. “However, we did not observe such sentiments among the voters,” he said, expressing confidence in securing a massive victory.
The candidate also emphasised that welfare schemes have effectively reached the people, stating, “This will ensure our resounding victory.”

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
