The Collector participated in the weekly review meeting with officials, including from the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, Salem Corporation, municipalities, town panchayats, and panchayat union, on drinking water supply at the Collectorate.
The Collector enquired about the action taken on decisions taken in last week’s meeting and measures taken to supply drinking water at regular intervals. The Collector also discussed details of areas that need more water supply in the coming days.
The meeting is being conducted every week in order to ensure regular supply of drinking water to the residents during the ongoing summer season, she said. At present in Salem district, through the 11 combined drinking water schemes implemented by the TWAD Board, per day 193.793 million litres of protected drinking water is being supplied to four municipalities, 29 town panchayats, and 4,466 rural residential areas. A total of 33.94 lakh people are benefiting through these schemes. Steps are being taken to supply drinking water at regular intervals and instruction is given to officials to monitor the water supply. Measures will be taken to spread awareness to use drinking water judiciously, she added.
“During the road-laying works, officials should avoid causing damage to the drinking water pipelines and if any damages are found in the pipelines, they should be repaired without delay,” the Collector added.
