ED interrogates Kerala businessman Gokulam Gopalan for alleged foreign exchange violation, extensive searches conducted at his properties.
Officers from the Kochi unit of Enforcement Directorate (ED)on Friday (April 4, 2025) quizzed prominent Kerala businessman and film producer Gokulam Gopalan at his corporate office in Kozhikode city. Sources said he appeared before the team around 11.30 a.m as part of the continuing investigation into an alleged foreign exchange violation case.
Ahead of the interrogation, the ED squad carried out extensive searches at his house in Vadakara and other regional offices in Kozhikode. Financial institutions and business offices under the Gokulam Group were also covered in the inspections.
Sources said the ongoing inspections were not related to the recent controversies associated with the newly released Malayalam film L2: Empuraan. There were also similar inspections in the past on complaints related to the suspected foreign exchange violation case, they said.
According to sources, the reason behind the latest inspection is reportedly related to the suspicious transaction of a huge fund to the Gokulam Group. The source of the income and the purpose of transaction will be verified as part of the latest inspection, they said.
A separate squad had also carried out searches at the other financial institutions owned by Gokulam Group in Tamil Nadu. A few documents related to financial transactions were recovered for further examinations.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
