DYFI warns of protests if qualified constable aspirants are barred from physical tests in Andhra Pradesh

DYFI demands all qualified police constable aspirants be allowed to take physical tests in Vijayawada demonstration.
Members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a demonstration at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada on Monday, demanding that all police constable aspirants who qualified in the preliminary examinations be allowed to take part in the physical fitness tests.
After the YSRCP government released a notification on November 28, 2022 for recruitment of police constables to fill 6,100 posts, 4,59,182 aspirants took the preliminary examination held on January 22, 2023. Out of them, 95,208 aspirants cleared the exam, said DYFI State secretary G. Ramanna.
“However, due to MLC elections and pending court cases, the State government deferred the recruitment process for two years. Now, it is not fair on the part of the government to reject these candidates for the physical fitness citing the age bar,” Mr. Ramanna said, adding that there are 20,000 posts lying vacant in the police department in the State.
“Why should the aspirants suffer because of the government’s negligence?” asked DYFI State president Y. Ramu, adding that the candidates have already lost crucial time and urged the government officials to ensure that further time is not lost.
The members said they would launch a large-scale agitation if the government does not permit the qualified aspirants to take part in the physical tests.
“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
