The Hindu
Rapid desilting and dewatering efforts underway to rescue trapped workers in SLBC tunnel, Nagarkurnool District.
The process of desilting and dewatering is going at a rapid pace with relief teams taking full measures to locate those trapped inside the SLBC tunnel, said Nagarkurnool District Collector Badawat Santosh. The Collector held a review meeting at the tunnel site on Sunday (March 23, 2025) with the heads of the teams involved in the rescue operation. Seven workers have remained missing since February 22, while the body of Gurpreet Singh, a TBM operator from Punjab, was recovered on March 9 after 16 days of relentless search in the tunnel.
According to the officials, the excavation work between points D1 and D2 has been completed, with wire mesh placed at D2 to restrict entry. Rescue personnel from various agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and Singareni miners, work tirelessly to remove debris and reach the trapped workers. Officials said the locomotive track is being cleared ahead of the conveyor hopper at 13.65 km.

The ‘calculations’ involving the AIADMK yet again emerged as a topic of discussion in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday (March 26, 2025). Brushing aside the DMK’s word of caution over ‘calculations’ against the AIADMK, S.P. Velumani, the Opposition party’s whip, maintained that “the calculations of party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami will be correct.”
