40 MoUs signed between women SHGs and buyers in Salem to promote direct sales and enhance market opportunities.
A total of 40 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between women self-help groups (SHGs) and buyers at a buyer-seller meeting held in Salem on Wednesday.
The meeting, aimed at facilitating direct sales of products manufactured by SHGs to bulk purchasers, was chaired by District Collector R. Brindha Devi.
The Collector said the State government supported the livelihood of women SHGs through various financial assistance programs, while the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihoods Mission was creating diverse market opportunities for the SHGs to promote their products.
At the meeting, women shared their insights on current sales methods, consumer demand, and market competition. Many groups produced high-quality goods that had the potential to compete in global markets, with the State government providing necessary guidance to enhance sales, she added.
The Collector noted that during the State-level SHG product exhibition held in Chennai from December 27, 2024, to January 12, 2025, the Kolathur Tulasi Women SHG, known for its signature Thattuvadai production, was awarded second place by the Deputy Chief Minister.
The SHGs in the district were also recognised for their unique handmade dolls and their ability to customise various products, including blankets and sarees, based on consumer preferences. The buyer-seller meeting was part of an ongoing initiative to ensure that SHG-produced goods reached larger markets. Over 90 SHGs showcased 104 products at the exhibition on Wednesday.
