Stray dog menace at TKMCH causes panic among patients and staff, with no action taken to address the issue.
Stray dog menace in the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital (TKMCH) has crossed all tolerable limits as no step has been taken to catch these animals even after a staff nurse of the hospital and patient have suffered dog bites.
Even as the TKMCH is attracting a few thousand patients every day, the stray dogs roaming freely around the hospital unleash panic among the patients, visitors, nurses and the doctors.
A nurse of TKMCH and a patient who had to come to the hospital for a different ailment have suffered dog bite in the past three days. Both the victims were treated for dog bite at the TKMCH.
“Even though we’ve informed the Corporation officials formally about the stray dog menace, no step has been taken by the urban civic body to check this problem,” said the TKMCH doctors.
Sanitary Officer Rajapandi said the contractor identified by the Corporation for animal birth control had been informed about the problem.
“Since the Corporation is waiting for funds from the government for settling this contractor’s bills, the stray dogs are yet to be caught,” he said.
