Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha honors Madiga community martyrs, praises Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for SC categorization efforts.
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha washed the feet of the family members of the Madiga community youngsters who lost their lives in the two-decade-long agitation for the categorisation of Scheduled Castes for reservations and said the Congress government fulfilled the long pending demand despite the hurdles.
Mr. Rajanarsimha, who belongs to the Madiga community, was the chief guest at a commemoration meeting of ‘Madiga martyrs’, also handed over financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each to the family members.
Congress MLAs from the Madiga community Kale Yadayya, Vemula Veeresham, Thota Lakshmi Kanta Rao, former ministers Motkupalli Narasimhulu, Dr. Chandrasekhar, AICC Secretary Sampath Kumar and former MP Pasunuru Dayakar were among those present.
Mr. Rajanarsimha said that the agitation started due to inequalities in the SC caste and no political colour should be given to it. He said that Madigas will be indebted to the families of the martyrs forever for their role.
Praising Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the bold step to constitute a committee immediately after the Supreme Court favoured the categorisation but following some conditions, he said the Chief Minister proved his commitment to the rights of the deprived sections and history will remember his bold move. He urged the people not to oppose SC categorisation blindly as the one-man Commission report had studied all aspects as per the Supreme Court guidelines before suggesting the classification. The Assembly will soon pass a law on it benefitting Madigas and the sub-castes in jobs.
