Congress MP demands probe into alleged assault of candidate by Election Commission official, blames AAP and BJP for incident.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on Sunday (January 26, 2025) demanded a probe into the alleged assault of a Congress candidate by an Election Commission official.
Mr. Ramesh alleged that on Saturday (January 25, 2025), the poll official tried to halt the padayatra (foot march) of Sushant Mishra, the Congress candidate from Rithala, and even assaulted him.
He claimed that Mr. Mishra had obtained police approval to hold the padayatra and blamed Aam AAdmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the alleged incident.
“This is a case of partisan behaviour by an officer of a constitutional body like the EC. This unprecedented and illegal act can only be seen as a desperate attempt by the AAP and BJP to stop Sushant’s candidature and the growing support for the Congress party. But we are not afraid. We will continue to raise the voice of the people and protect the sanctity of our elections,” Mr. Ramesh posted on X.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
