Chief Minister M.K. Stalin holds roadshow in Tindivanam, interacts with public, and inaugurates memorials in Villupuram district.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday held a roadshow in Tindivanam in Villupuram district, before attending a party event.
Amid slogans of “Stalin, Stalin” by DMK cadre and supporters, who had lined up on either side of Chennai-Tiruchi Highway, Mr. Stalin arrived at Tindivanam. He got down from his vehicle and walked for a kilometre, greeting people and receiving petitions from the public along the way. The Chief Minister interacted with the party cadre and continued the roadshow for a few kilometres, after which he chaired a party meeting at a private hall.
People, including women, started arriving at the venue of the roadshow starting at 4 p.m. The event also featured performances of several traditional artforms of Tamil Nadu such as karakattam.
Earlier, the Chief Minister paid a surprise visit to a primary health centre at Olakur near Tindivanam. Accompanied by District Collector C. Palani, he inspected the fever and post-operative wards and checked the availability of medicines. He also interacted with the patients to assess the quality of treatment and directed the Health Department authorities to ensure that there was no delay in disbursal of assistance under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme.
Mr. Stalin is set to inaugurate a manimandapam (memorial) for 21 “social justice activists” in Villupuram on Tuesday. He will also inaugurate a memorial hall built in honour of former Minister A. Govindasamy.
The Chief Minister had earlier announced that a manimandapam would be dedicated to 21 “social justice activists” who had lost their lives in the police firing during the [Vanniyar] reservation agitation in September 1987. The memorial has been constructed at Vazhudhareddi at a cost of ₹5.70 crore.
He had also announced that a memorial hall would be constructed in honour of Govindasamy, who had served in the Cabinets of C.N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi. The hall has also been constructed at Vazhudhareddi at a cost of ₹4 crore.
