NIA conducts searches in multiple states and UTs linked to BKI in connection with Chandigarh grenade attack case.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday searched multiple locations linked to the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) across three States and a Union Territory, in connection with the Chandigarh grenade attack case.
The operation covered various locations in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Chandigarh. “The searches were conducted on the premises of suspects linked to U.S.-based terrorist Harpreet Singh aka Happy Passian in the Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Bathinda, and Ferozepur districts of Punjab, Lakhimpur Kheri district in U.P., Rudrapur district in Uttarakhand, and in Chandigarh,” the NIA said.
On September 9, 2024, Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih allegedly hurled a hand grenade at a house in Sector 10/D, Chandigarh. Both the accused have been arrested. After a reference from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the NIA registered a case last year.
According to the NIA, investigations so far have exposed a conspiracy to attack a retired police officer, involving Pakistan-based Harwinder Singh Sandhu aka Rinda and U.S.-based Harpreet Singh aka Happy Passian, both “terrorists” belonging to the BKI. “The two terrorists had raised a module to carry out the terror attack and had provided funds, weapons, and other logistical support to the on-ground operatives,” the agency said.
