Kovil Vazhi Bus Stand in Tiruppur Corporation upgraded with cement concrete flooring for enhanced durability and efficiency.
The provision for cement concrete flooring has been added to the Kovil Vazhi Bus Stand construction project, the third such facility in Tiruppur Corporation serving as a terminus for buses bound for southern districts of the State.
The work order entailing expenditure of ₹8.8 crore was given a month ago. Earlier this month, Corporation Commissioner S. Ramamoorthy inspected the works and evaluated the scope for expediting the pace of works further.
Initially, bitumen surface was planned for the bus stand as part of the overall project. Subsequently, the Corporation had included the provision for cement concrete flooring factoring in higher durability, a senior official said.
The expenditure for the bus stand initiated as a ₹26-crore project on a five-acre area was met from Infrastructure and Amenities Fund.
Building works have been completed in the bus stand located in the sixth ward of third zone. The bus stand has been established with 42 bus bays, 35 shops, and a two-wheeler parking stand with capacity to accommodate 550 vehicles.
The facilities include a restaurant, a nursing pod for mothers, elevators, toilets, drinking water, rooms for police personnel, a surveillance room, and an information centre.
With the city expanding at a swift pace, the third bus stand was considered a necessity to decongest vehicular traffic in the city.

Following protests by residents of Mittaganahalli and Kannur villages over dumping the city’s waste in the Mittaganahalli quarry pit, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon issue tenders and work orders and begin work on rural development projects worth ₹500 crore in these areas, Chief Civic Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said on Monday.

Director General of Police (DGP) K. Ramachandra Rao, stepfather of Ranya Rao who was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for trying to smuggle 14.2 kg of gold, was questioned by the State government-appointed inquiry committee led by Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta on Monday evening.
