After much delay, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has finally launched a dedicated portal for property owners who do not have a khatas issued from the civic body to avail e-khata.
The civic body launched the portal for applying and downloading e-khatas on October 1, 2024. However, this was for those property owners who already had a manual khata issued by the BBMP. A separate portal for those who do not have khatas was promised then and was finally launched on Monday.
“There are over five lakh properties that do not have BBMP khatas. These properties have been transacting without khata until now and many of them are outside the property tax net as well,” BBMP said in a statement on Monday. It said that Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D. K. Shivakumar took a policy decision to bring these properties into the mainstream and issue khatas to whoever was eligible.
Those who do not have a khata for their property, can apply for the same on the new portal https://bbmp.karnataka.gov.in/newkhata. The property owner has to submit their Sale/Registration Deed, Aadhaar Card, Encumbrance Certificate, a photo of the property and Bescom ID.
The civic body has warned that property owners who already have a manual khata and want an e-khata should not apply for a new khata. “If you want an e-khata for your existing manual khata, then do not apply for new khata for that property as it will make you liable for criminal action for attempting to take duplicate/multiple khatas for one property,” it said.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
