Governor Jishnu Dev Varma presented the Governor’s Awards for Excellence -2024 to selected outstanding individuals and organisations in various fields, including environmental conservation, welfare of the disabled, games and sports, and culture at the ‘At Home’ programme, hosted by him on the occasion of Republic Day. The event was held with great pomp at Raj Bhavan here on Sunday in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Telangana High Court acting Chief Justice Sujoy Pal, and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and other dignitaries.
While the Special Lifetime Achievement award has been conferred on senior IFS officer G. Chandrasekhar Reddy, who is now the Secretary to Chief Minister, for his contributions to environmental conservation, the other award winners are Dusharla Satyanarayana, Arikapudi Raghu, Jeevanji Deepti, P.B. Krishna Bharati, and Prof. M. Pandu Ranga Rao.
Dhruvansh Organisation for environmental conservation, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute for welfare of the disabled, Aditya Mehta Foundation for games and sports, and Sanskriti Foundation for promotion of culture were also awarded.

“Earth Day celebrations have already started in Bengaluru, with campaigns at various colleges such as St. Josephs, and Christ University where life-size elephants made from the invasive species, Lantana Camera, have been travelling to spread the message of conservation and coexistence, along with expert talks from WWF India and Ravi Chellam of Metastring Foundation,” said the release.
