Cottonpet Police swiftly arrest labourer for attacking cows, sparking protests and condemnation from political leaders, community.
In a swift action, Cottonpet Police arrested a labourer Sheikh Nasir, 30, for slashing udders and stabbing the feet of three cows in Pension Mohalla, Chamarajpet in the wee hours of Sunday (January 12, 2025). The accused attacked the cows in an inebriated state, the police said.
“The accused worked as a helper in a plastic and cloth bag stitching shop 50 metres away from where the cows were attacked and he attacked the cows in an inebriated state. No other person is found to be involved,” said S. Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Division) said. The accused hails from Champaran District, Bihar.
He was arrested Sunday (January 12, 2025) night, produced before a magistrate at his residence and remanded into 14 days judicial custody. The police will likely seek his custody on Monday.
The incident triggered protests by Hindutva organisations and opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday (January 12, 2025), who termed the incident a “terror attack” and alleged it was a deliberate attack to create fear psychosis in the Hindu community. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara intervened, condemned the ghastly attack and assured of swift action against the accused.
Meanwhile, the three cows that were attacked are being treated at a veterinary hospital and are said to be out of danger.
