AAP accuses BJP of discontinuing 'Farishtey Dilli Ke' scheme, jeopardizing free medical treatment for road accident victims in Delhi.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday (March 30, 2025) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of discontinuing the ‘Farishtey Dilli Ke’ scheme by not allocating any funds to the scheme in the annual budget presented last week.
The scheme provided free medical treatment to road accident victims in private hospitals and the cost was borne by the government.
In January, the Supreme Court said that the Delhi government and the Lieutenant-Governor must try to make peace with each other when informed that funds for the ‘Farishtey Dilli Ke’ scheme have been cleared.
The Delhi government had sought the immediate re-operationalisation of the scheme by clearing pending bills, releasing timely payments to private hospitals and initiating disciplinary action against officials responsible for deliberately orchestrating the “de-operationalisation” of the scheme. The AAP had back then claimed that private hospitals were not being reimbursed by the officials under the directions of the LG and the BJP.
“The newly formed BJP Government in Delhi has shut it down. As a result, accident victims will no longer get immediate and free treatment at private hospitals, which means thousands of lives will be lost every year,” AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Sunday while addressing a press conference.
“The BJP has always wanted to shut down this scheme. Earlier, they tried to do it through the LG, and now that they have formed the government in Delhi, they have shut it down directly,” he added.
Mr. Bharadwaj said that the first hour after an accident, known as the ‘Golden Hour,’ is crucial because timely treatment can save a life. He said that people who voted for the BJP should reflect on this as when an accident happens, it does not check whether the victim is from the BJP, Congress, or AAP and it can happen to anyone.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
