Vizianagaram district installs CC cameras on State Highways to reduce accidents, identify vehicles, and promote road safety.
Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district administration decided to install CC cameras on State Highways and accident-prone areas to identify the reasons for accidents and identify the vehicles which were involved in those incidents. It was observed that the police personnel have been facing difficulties in tracing the vehicles in hit-and-run cases. As many as 12 deaths were reported in such accident cases. Against this background, Vizianagaram SP Vakul Jindal and officials of the Transport Department requested the Collector B.R. Ambedkar to take necessary steps for the installation of CC cameras in accident-prone locations such as Rajam, Cheepurupalli and other places.
During the road safety meetings held in the Collector’s office recently, Mr. Ambedkar sanctioned ₹5 lakh for the purchase of CC cameras and their installation in the selected places. Mr. Vakul Jindal directed the police personnel to leave no stone unturned to identify vehicles involved in hit-and-run cases as the motive might be different in those incidents. He has also observed that many persons were dying on the spot as two wheeler drivers were not wearing helmets even on National Highways and State Highways. Mr. Jindal said awareness rallies over the usage of helmets were being organised in all the towns of the district.
Meanwhile the Transport Department is also holding awareness programmes in colleges as many students drive down to their colleges located on the outskirts of the city on their own vehicles. The students are not wearing the helmets in spite of the directive of the college managements and Police- and Transport Departments. Motor Vehicle Inspector K. Ravi Shankar Prasad urged parents to make their children wear helmets when they were going to college and other places so that they need not worry about their safety.
