Mukul Mathur, who assumed the office of South Western Railway’s general manager on March 2, conducted a comprehensive window trailing inspection along the Hassan-Kabaka Puttur section on Tuesday.
As part of his inspection, he also visited Subrahmanya Road (SBHR) station, a key location that attracts a large number of passengers due to its religious significance, said an official release.
During his visit to SBHR station, Mr. Mathur focused on evaluating passenger amenities to ensure a comfortable and seamless experience for travellers. Given the station’s importance as a hub for pilgrims and visitors, he emphasised the need for enhanced facilities and services to meet the growing demand.
Besides the station inspection, Mr. Mathur reviewed critical operational aspects, including the running of trains at maximum permissible speed (MPS) and the working parameters of the Ghat section between Sakleshpur and SBHR. He assessed various safety parameters to ensure adherence to the highest standards of railway operations in this challenging terrain.
The GM interacted with Railway staff, counselling them on the importance of maintaining safety as the top priority. He advised the team to uphold rigorous safety protocols without any shortcuts, reinforcing SWR’s commitment to secure and reliable train operations.
As representatives of passengers’ associations and local media personnel waited for Mr. Mathur to interact with them, the GM disappointed them by going straight to Kukke Subrahmanya temple. Upon his return too, he did not interact with any of the general public, regretted Prasad K.G. Nettana, president of SBHR Railway Balakedarara Vedike.
Mr. Nettana said the patrons and the public wanted to apprise the GM about the slow pace and alleged sub-standard quality work under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme at SBHR, besides other shortcomings in the station.
