Supreme Court judges led by Justice Gavai visit Manipur relief camps, providing legal and humanitarian assistance to IDPs.
Six Supreme Court judges led by Justice B.R. Gavai are scheduled to visit relief camps in Manipur on March 22 as part of a National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) outreach to lend legal and humanitarian assistance in a State which has seen months of ethnic violence and suffering.

Justice Gavai, who is the Executive Chairman of NALSA, would be accompanied by Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, M.M. Sundresh, K.V. Viswanathan and N. Kotiswar Singh.
The judges’ visit would coincide with the duodecennial celebration of the Manipur High Court.
“Nearly two years after the devastating sectarian violence of May 3, 2023, which led to the loss of hundreds of lives and displaced over 50,000 people, many continue to seek refuge in relief camps across Manipur. This visit by the Supreme Court judges highlights the ongoing need for legal and humanitarian assistance to these affected communities,” a NALSA statement said.
Justice Gavai would virtually inaugurate legal services and medical services across Manipur and launch legal aid clinics in Imphal East, Imphal West and Ukhrul districts. There would also be a distribution of essential relief materials to internally displaced persons (IDPs).
While the legal services camps would connect IDPs with government welfare programmes, a team of 25 specialised doctors from Chennai would conduct the medical camps across relief camps.
