South Chennai MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian expands 'Pink Mobility' initiative by distributing electric vehicles to women drivers in the city.
South Chennai MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian distributed electric vehicles (EV) to women drivers as part of expanding the ‘Pink Mobility’ initiative in the city on Wednesday. The Pink Mobility has been launched by Rapido, which is exclusively for women passengers.
Ms. Thangapandian congratulated the organisation for expanding the bike captain team to 2,000 this year. She said that the State government, under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, has been taking several steps for women empowerment. The platform helps women earn a decent livelihood by helping them stand on their own feet.
Usha Rani, a bike captain from Perambur, a receiver of one of electric vehicle, the who received one of the five EVs, said the initiative helps her to make a decent living.
Vivek Krishna, chief financial officer of Rapido, said the platform provides two-wheeler, autorickshaws and cabs. The platform also has more than 25 safety features and plans hire two lakh pink bike captains in Chennai.
