
Customs thwarts gold smuggling attempts at Thiruvananthapuram airport

Thiruvananthapuram Airport Customs foil two gold smuggling attempts, seizing 1.06 kg of gold capsules and 407.13 grams of gold bars.
The Air Customs wing at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport successfully thwarted two gold smuggling attempts during the last week.
In one case, officers seized four gold capsules in compound form having a total weight of 1.06 kg from a passenger who arrived from Riyadh. The gold was concealed within the passenger’s body. Upon extraction, a total quantity of 992.6 grams of 24K gold, valued at ₹86.20 lakh, was extracted from the seized compound, a press release stated.
In a separate case, another passenger arriving from Dubai attempted to smuggle 24K gold bars weighing 407.13 grams, valued at ₹35.62 lakh. The gold was found concealed within the waistline of the passenger’s jeans.
