Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) advocates for women's rights and equality, urging women to fight against discrimination and injustice.
There is every need to protect and uphold the rights of women, which were achieved after long struggles, Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) State general secretary M. Lakhsmi has said.
At a women’s conference organised in connection with the International Women’s Day celebrations, at the Public Library on Wednesday, Ms. Lakshmi called upon every woman to fight for social, economic and political equality.
Saying that women were equal to men in all respects, she said that they were exhibiting their talents in all spheres.
She alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre was trying to promote the theory of ‘Manu’ and was trying to deprive women of the rights, which they had achieved after innumerable struggles. She called upon women to wage struggles for upholding their rights.
The participants said that women were being subjected to discrimination in all spheres, and that they were not being given importance on par with their male counterparts. They decried the attacks on the minorities and Dalits, and honour killings. They said that the rights achieved through the struggles of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Jyothirao Phule should be protected to safeguard the interests of dalits.
POW district president S. Venkatalakshmi presided over the programme. POW State executive member G. Indira, district vice-president Balanagamma, and Chaitanya Mahila Samakhya leader Lalitha were among those present.
