Searches by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) are underway at some premises of the close associates of Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V. Senthilbalaji in Karur and a few other locations in Tamil Nadu on Thursday (March 6, 2025).
At Karur, the premises of Sankar, a PWD contractor, on 80 feet road were among those being searched by the ED officials. According to sources, about 20 personnel from Kerala and Tamil Nadu were carrying out the searches.
It may be mentioned that the ED and the Income Tax Department had raided the same premises in 2023 and 2024 in connection with an alleged money laundering case.
The searches are being conducted as part of a fresh money laundering probe against Mr. Balaji and others linked to alleged irregularities in the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) that has monopoly over liquor trade in the State, official sources said.
