Minister Santosh Lad urges Goa CM to protect and provide welfare for migrant workers from Karnataka.
Minister for Labour Welfare Santosh Lad has appealed to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take steps to ensure protection and welfare of migrant workers from Karnataka in the neighbouring State.
Mr. Lad met Dr. Sawant in Panjim on Sunday and urged him to provide adequate protection to migrant workers who are most likely from North Karnataka districts.
“It has come to our notice that migrant workers from Karnataka are facing some issues. At times, they face harassment by the police and some urban local bodies. They also suffer from lack of access to social security measures and government benefits in their adopted homeland. We urge you to provide them protection and extend to them social security benefits like subsidised foodgrains, health and other benefits,” he said in a letter submitted to the Goa Chief Minister.
“We urge you to protect them from harassment by the police or other government agencies. Goa and Karnataka have a cultural bond. The two States are known for their hospitality. We urge you to protect our migrant workers who are contributing to the growth and prosperity of Goa,” the Minister said.
