Recent changes in DMK are an effort to effect reforms: Stalin

DMK President M.K. Stalin justifies new party district units and appointments to prepare for 2026 State Assembly election.
DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday justified the creation of new party district units and fresh appointments to certain posts, while dropping some others.
In a statement, he said this was to prepare the party for the upcoming State Assembly election in 2026. They are an effort to “effect reforms” and “not to remove weeds” from the party.
Mr. Stalin urged the cadre to ensure victory against those who have an “unannounced alliance” and one that is not useful to Tamil Nadu in any manner. “We have ensured that Tamil Nadu is a frontrunner State in India despite the BJP government’s effort to erode federalism and deny the State its rights,” he said.
Mr. Stalin said the preparations for the Assembly election should begin immediately since it was only a year away. “Every one of you know me well. Before taking a decision about removing someone from a post, I think it over a hundred times and have several rounds of discussions with the DMK’s key functionaries, and take a decision only for the party’s benefit. These decisions are taken to ensure the party’s welfare,” he said.
The party should change according to the times to achieve growth. “Those who were holding these posts should co-operate with the new appointees and work with them. The DMK’s support among people, especially women and youth, is increasing,” he added.
