‘Ranga Sambrahama’ theatre festival from Saturday

“Ranga Sambrahama” theatre festival will be held in the city from March 22 to 27.
The festival has been organised by the theatre repertoire Rangayana and District Amateur Theatre Artistes Forum. It will feature seminars, folk music, and a celebration of World Theatre Day among others, said Talakadu Rajesh, president of the Forum, here on Thursday.
The festival will be inaugurated by K.M. Gayatri, Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture, at 6 p.m. on March 22, and theatre personality K.R. Sumathi, MLA K. Harish Gowda, and others will be present.
On March 23, there will be a seminar at 10 a.m. and it will be inaugurated by senior IPS officer Dharani Devi Malagatti and theatre personality S.R. Ramesh will preside over it. Karnataka Sahitya Academy president L.N. Mukundaraj will participate.
During the event, senior theatre artist H. Janardhan (Janni) will discuss the representation of grassroots communities in modern Kannada theatre from the perspective of theatre personality C.G. Krishnaswamy. Gundanna Chikkamagaluru will make a presentation on the role of C.G.K. in social movements and Mr. Ramesh will make a presentation on Kannada theatre.
All plays will commence at 6.30 p.m. and season tickets are pegged at ₹300, while tickets for daily shows will cost ₹100.
World Theatre Day will be celebrated on March 27 and eminent theatre artistes will be felicitated and honors will be conferred on them. The recipients, include Saraswathi Julekha Begum, H. Janardhan (Janni), Noor Ahmed Sheikh, Prasad Kunduru, Chandrashekhar Achar, H.M. Kumaraswamy, Tippanna, Malathi Shree, C. Basavalingaiah, and Rajshekar Kadamba.

On getting information that the promoters of Srinivas College had encroached on parts of 4.11 poramboke (community) land of Nandini river for construction of a building, an official team visited the site on March 6. The Dishank software revealed that the college had encroached on 23 cents of poramboke land in Survey No. 47/1A1, and filled it with soil. A detailed mahzar (examination) was done on March 10 and a police complaint was lodged on March 17.

Over the past five years, a mere 1,525 driving licences were cancelled across India for traffic violations. Tamil Nadu accounted for half of these cancellations, while Delhi and West Bengal reported just three each. Haryana recorded four cancellations, while Assam, Bihar, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan recorded 104, 158, 119, 105, and 94 cancellations, respectively. Maharashtra, a State with a high volume of traffic violations, recorded only 15 cancellations.
