Thirty-eight contingents to participate in Bengaluru Republic Day celebrations with enhanced security measures and special metro arrangements.
Thirty-eight contingents will participate in 76th Republic Day celebrations at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The parade will see the participation of contingents from the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), City Armed Reserve (CAR), Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Indian Air Force, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and others. A group of visually impaired individuals will also take part in the parade.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda on Friday said that adequate security measures have been taken to ensure an incident-free Republic Day. Mr. Dayananda said the citizens who wish to participate in the event should be seated on the ground before 8:30 am. Visitors are not allowed after this hour.
He said that Deputy Commissioners of Police will oversee the bandobast. CCTVs are also deployed at several places to monitor security. He said cigarettes, crackers, water bottles, sharp objects, lighters, and matchboxes are banned. He said 38 contingents will participate. Traffic movement in both directions on Cubbon Road from BRV Junction to Kamraj road will be diverted, he added.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced special arrangements for Republic Day, including an early start and additional train trips to accommodate commuters. Metro services will commence at 6 AM from all four terminal stations and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, Majestic, an hour earlier than the usual start time of 7 AM.
In addition, BMRCL will operate 20 extra trips each on the Green and Purple Lines to facilitate travel for those attending the Lalbagh Flower Show and a special event at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Madavara. The public can travel to Lalbagh metro station and return using tokens, contactless smart cards (CSC), National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) and QR tickets.
To ease passenger movement, Lalbagh Metro Station will issue flat ₹30 paper tickets between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. for the quick movement of passengers in lieu of tokens. “The paper tickets are valid for travel from Lalbagh metro station to any metro station on the day of purchase. Tokens will not be issued during this period at Lalbagh metro station,” a release stated.
