Bus tracking system introduced in Tiruchi on a pilot basis

In an effort to assist the waiting passengers to keep track of movement of city buses, the Tiruchi district administration, with the participation of various departments, has introduced a real time bus tracking system on a pilot basis.
In an effort to assist the waiting passengers, the Tiruchi district administration, in coordination with various departments, has introduced a real time bus tracking system on a pilot basis.
Under the project, 42 Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses, plying between Chathiram Bus Stand and Samayapuram, have been fitted with the global positioning system (GPS). They have been wirelessly connected with the digital display boards established at select bus stops along the Chathiram Bus Stand, Thiruvanaikovil and Samayapuram route. Similar to the metro train movements, the digital boards will display the movement of buses on both the direction. It enables the passengers waiting at the bus stops to know the movement of the buses on a real time basis.
K.N. Nehru, Minister for Municipal Administration, who inaugurated the project at a function held at Thiruvanaikovil, said that it was unique as far as the operation of bus transport was concerned. The passengers could no longer wait without knowing the arrival time of the expected bus.
Collector M. Pradeep Kumar said that the digital boards had been set up at Thiruvanaikovil, check-post, Koothur, No. 1 Tollgate and Samayapuram. It had received good response from the passengers.
Amit Gupta, Assistant Collector, Training, who took a lead role in implementing the project, said that there was a scope for bringing all State Transport Corporations and private buses under the project. Collection of data was under way. The idea was to keep the passengers well informed. The system could be made available on the mobiles.
A mobile app would be developed so as to enable the passengers to track the buses on their mobiles. Mugeshwaren of Kiwistron Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Uma Shankaran, TN StartUp Mission Director, Madurai, and Vinoth Rajendran, Project Lead, StartupTN Tiruchi Regional Hub had assisted in the implementation of the project, Mr. Gupta added.
Mayor M. Anbazhagan and Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan were present.
