SRM-AP University felicitates champion athlete and Arjuna awardee Deepthi Jeevanji

SRM University-AP honours Paralympian Deepthi Jeevanji, first intellectually impaired Indian athlete to win a Paralympic medal, with Arjuna Award.
SRM University-AP on Friday (January 24) felicitated Deepthi Jeevanji, a student of commerce at Paari School of Business who represented India at the Paris Paralympics 2024 in the 400 meters T20 event and secured a bronze. She became the first intellectually impaired Indian athlete to win a Paralympic medal. Ms. Jeevanji is the recipient of the Arjuna Award this year.
The university vice-chancellor Manoj K. Arora, registrar R. Premkunar, director of campus life and maintenance and director in-charge of sports Anup Suryavanshi and former IIT-Madras faculty member N. Siva Prasad presented Ms. Jeevanji with cheques for ₹25 lakh for her Paralympic success and an additional ₹15 lakh for winning the Arjuna Award.
“It was an immense honour to represent my country on a global platform. The support from the management, staff and my teachers at SRM University-AP played a crucial role in helping me achieve success,” said Ms. Jeevanji.
Speaking about the importance of sports in education, the vice-chancellor expressed hope that in the next paralympics, Ms. Jeeanji brings gold to the country. He said the university would provide all support for her further growth in sports.
The university plans to host a national-level sports fest, UDGAM-2025, which will attract participation of over 3,200 students from across the country. Ms. Jeevanji released a brochure on the event.
