Poor condition of a vital link road at West Mambalam troubles motorists
The Hindu
Pillayar Koil Street in West Mambalam needs urgent road restoration, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.
Pillayar Koil Street is one of the busy roads at West Mambalam. This narrow road links Arya Gowda Road and Lake View Road with several localities of West Saidapet. It also connects Kodambakkam Road, which traverses through West Saidapet till the Guindy Industrial Estate, and Ashok Nagar 10th and 11th Avenues. Motorists bound for T. Nagar and Kodambakkam take this stretch to avoid a detour through Ashok Nagar 4th Avenue.
However, this street, which was dug up for laying water pipes and storm water drains, has not been restored for a month. The poor condition of the road causes hardship to motorists as well as pedestrians. Shops occupy the road margin. Lake View Road, which leads to Arya Gowda Road, is also in a pathetic condition. The Chennai Corporation is requested to restore the road as early as possible.

A senior official of the Corporation says some water supply work is yet be completed and the storm water drain project has been finished. The road will be restored along with several other interior roads.
The Ambattur OT bus terminus has been renovated. A new roof has been fixed, but the lights have been removed. The time keeper office functions in poor lighting at night. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) should install lights at the terminus.

The Cubbon Park administration has said that any event organised inside the park with over 20 participants need prior permission from the Horticulture Department and in some cases, even permission from the police. This comes after the row over organisers of Cubbon Reads, a reading community, being detained on Saturday, as several turned up for a Secret Santa party.
