The Nethravathi riverbank, that was once abuzz with unloading of sand from boats and loading it to trucks, has become busy again, but for a different reason this time. For the first time in the Netravathi river area near Mangaluru, a water sports activity has come up beckoning Mangalureans as well as tourists.
The first left turn on a small road just after the Netravathi Bridge while driving from Mangaluru towards Thokkottu on Panvel-Kochi National Highway 66 leads one to Adam Kudru. Though the Kudru (river island) is no more after the formation of the highway, the name still exists. An expansive Dhakke (boat landing point) on the riverbank abutting a creek hosts the water sports activities.
Functioning under the name ‘Blue Miracle Water Sports’ for the past three days, the facility offers a host of water sports activities. The attractions include water cycling, zorbing ball and zorbing cylinder, pedal boat, kayaking, bumper ride (pulled by speed boat), banana boat, trampoline, speed boat, bouncing ride, makeshift pool for kids’ boating, and much more.
The serene backwaters of the Netravathi provide a conducive atmosphere for arranging activities, said the proprietor of Blue Miracle. The entrepreneur has obtained all necessary permissions and clearances from authorities concerned to offer the facilities.
The safety of the users is ensured as wearing of life jackets is made compulsory, said the proprietor, adding that they have deployed trained personnel to manage the facilities. The attractions are reasonably priced, ranging from ₹200 to ₹300 depending on the ride. The facility may be contacted on 7892335654 or 7892419030.
Commenting on the new venture, Udayashankar from Jeppu said the facility offers a getaway closer to the city for Mangalureans. It could also attract tourists who are keen to enjoy water sports activities.
The Cubbon Park administration has said that any event organised inside the park with over 20 participants need prior permission from the Horticulture Department and in some cases, even permission from the police. This comes after the row over organisers of Cubbon Reads, a reading community, being detained on Saturday, as several turned up for a Secret Santa party.
