
Palaniswami names point men for the AIADMK’s 82 district units

AIADMK general secretary appoints point men for 82 district units ahead of upcoming Assembly election.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday named point men for 82 district units of the party as part of the preparations for the Assembly election due next year.
Among those appointed for the post were S. Semmalai (Tiruchi suburban south); M. Thambi Durai and S. Vignesh (Tirupattur); P. Venugopal and T. Prasad (Chennai suburban); A. Anwhar Raajhaa and D. Gowrishankar (Tenkasi south); ‘Ma Foi’ K. Pandiarajan (Dharmapuri); C. Ponnaiyan and P. Vinod Kumar (Tiruvallur north); S. Gokula Indira and A. Arivoli (Tiruchi city); B. Valarmathi and K.C. Ananimuthu (Madurai city); S.M. Velusamy (the Nilgiris); M. Chinnasamy (Karur); G. Hari (Ranipet east); M. Kovai Sathyan (South Chennai north [east]); Singai G. Ramachandran (North Chennai south [west]); M.S.M. Anandan (Erode city); S. Damodaran (Tiruppur city); Varahur A. Arunachalam (Tiruvannamalai central); P. Saravanan (Tirunelveli suburban); and K.A.K. Mugil (Coimbatore suburban north).
In a release, Mr. Palaniswami said the point men were required to visit the districts concerned and submit their reports by March-end.
A few of the appointed functionaries explained that the district secretaries would not be made the point men as they should coordinate on the party work and the point men should do the preparatory work.
However, some prominent persons, who are not holding the post of district secretary, have not made it to the list. They include veteran actor Gautami Tadimalla and former Member of Parliament V. Maitreyan.
In a post on his social media account, I.S. Inbadurai, secretary of the AIADMK advocates’ wing, said Mr. Palaniswami, in his speech in Vellore on Sunday, clarified the party’s stand against the imposition of Hindi. He asked the DMK government why it should write to the Centre about a year ago that it would sign an memorandum of understanding with it on the PM-SHRI scheme.
