The SWR officials said that the new platforms (specifically for Vande Bharat express trains) are situated at the end of Platform 1. To access them, passengers can alight at the main entrance (Terminal 1) and walk through Platform 1 to reach Platforms 1A to 1E. The walking distance is approximately 100 metres.
Two Vande Bharat trains — Bengaluru Cantonment – Madurai (20671/2) and Bengaluru Cantonment – Coimbatore (20641/2) — are being handled in the newly-constructed Platforms 1A to 1E at Cantonment Railway Station in Bengaluru while all the other trains headed towards Baiyyappanahalli are being handled on Platform 2, the South Western Railway (SWR) announced.
The station, which is being redeveloped at a cost of ₹480 crore, handles 58 mail and express trains and 37 passenger trains, and is an integral part of the city’s transport network. With the ongoing work, many passengers had complained about confusion about the entry points to the station.
This terminal is nearest to the Cantonment bus stop.
Passengers boarding all the other trains can use the back gate (Terminal 2) for entry to the station. However, due to the ongoing construction work, there is no parking facility at this terminal. Passengers, who wish to park their vehicles, can do so in Terminal 1.
The officials also made it clear that even if the passengers enter the station through the wrong terminal, they can use the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) to switch between terminals.
For passenger convenience, the Platform 1 side (front entrance, Cantonment Road) of the station is equipped with a Passenger Reservation Counter and four unreserved ticket counters, while Platform 2 side (back entrance on Miller’s Road) offers two Unreserved Ticketing System counters and one Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) for ticketing services.
