NCSK Chairperson ensures fair wages, benefits, and awareness for cleanliness workers in Virudhunagar district.
Chairperson of National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK), M. Venkatesan, has instructed Virudhunagar district administration to ensure that increased daily wages under the latest Government Order should be disbursed to the cleanliness workers in the local bodies of the district within three months.
While chairing a review meeting with officials of the district, including District Collector V. P. Jeyaseelan and Superintendent of Police D. Kannan, here on Wednesday, he found that the workers were continued to be paid low wages till date.
“The G.O. issued in August 2024 mandated that the workers should be paid the new wages with effect from April 1,” Mr. Venkatesan said.
Stating that the officials claimed that a labourious process of identifying the workers for payment of arrears was involved, the Chairperson has intructed the officials to settle the arrears by three months.
Besides, he found that the workers were not aware of their Provident Fund and State Employees Insurance Corporation number.
“The officials have been instructed to issue identity cards for the workers with the details of PF and ESIC number for them to verify the details,” he said.
Similarly, the officials of the local bodies have been directed to make life insurance for ₹10 lakh compulsory for all the cleanliness workers.
