Namma Police Run promotes drug awareness and safe driving with community participation in district headquarter towns.
The Police Department organised Namma Police Run (marathons) in all district headquarter towns on Sunday with the themes: Say No To Drugs and Traffic Awareness for Safe Driving.
A large number of people, young and old, men and women, participated in the runs. Special runs were held for children and senior citizens, at some places.
In Hubballi-Dharwad, Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J. flagged off the event.
She urged the youth to join hands and cooperate with the police and the district administration to make the twin cities crime-free and ensure accident-free traffic movement.
The Police Department and the district administration are continuously creating awareness against drugs and violating traffic rules. This is one of the several events planned, she said.
She described the event as a joint effort by the police and citizens to make Dharwad district, including the twin cities, drug and crime-free.
“However, our purpose will not be achieved by organising such events just for a day. It will be meaningful when it is implemented individually and socially, every day,” she said.
