Legal Metrology department’s Deputy Commissioner B. Madhusudana Reddy on Saturday said that all the mobile shop owners were supposed to follow packaging norms and ensure date of manufacturing, company name, maximum retail price and customer care number on each and every mobile phone and mobile gadgets. He said that many shop owners who would purchase mobile phones from different companies should verify these details on each phone.
He, along with Assistant Commissioner P. V. Ranga Reddy and inspector M.Damodar Naidu, conducted raids in several shops of Rajam, Vizianagaram and other places. He said that customer care contact details and product packaging details were mandatory for each and every product including mobile phones. “The department’s core responsibility is to protect the interests of the customers. Since the mobile phone’s cost is high, customers should not be cheated or misguided while buying the smart phones,” said Mr. Madhusudana Reddy while interacting with the media here.
According to him, the special teams filed 2789 cases and collected around ₹98 lakh rupees as a compounding fee from errant traders in 2024-25 financial year. “The traders who sell rice, fertilizers, and other essential goods should ensure proper weight during sale of products. Otherwise, the department will file a case and impose a fine. We are organizing awareness programmes at Rythu Bazaars and other places to create awareness among the consumers about their rights. They can insist on the proper weight of the product and inform us if the weighing machines are tampered with,” said Mr. Madhusudana Reddy.
