Minister inaugurates renovated Gandhipuram Omni Bus Stand in Coimbatore, lays foundation for infrastructure projects worth crores.
Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru inaugurated the renovated Gandhipuram Omni Bus Stand in Coimbatore city on Thursday.
The Coimbatore Corporation carried out the renovation over a year at a cost of ₹3.68 crore, including the construction of 42 bus bays, tensile roofing, seating, and restroom facilities, with a capacity to accommodate around 300 buses.
The Minister also laid foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth ₹143.9 crore in the city, including the relaying of 133 km of roads at a cost of ₹51 crore to improve transport infrastructure. Phase 2 of Bio-Mining works at the Vellalore Dump Yard, estimated at ₹58 crore, aims to clear legacy waste and enhance waste management. Additionally, three new garbage transfer stations will be constructed at Kovaipudur, Kavundampalayam, and Peelamedu. Each station, with a capacity of 200 tonnes per day, at a cost of ₹9 crore.
Foundation stones were also laid for 1,028 new projects for various municipalities in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, and Nilgiris districts at an estimated cost of ₹270.29 crore.
Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise V. Senthil Balaji, Minister for Information and Publicity M.P. Swaminathan, Minister for Human Resources Management N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj and Coimbatore MP Ganapathy P. Rajkumar, Coimbatore Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar, Pollachi MP K. Eswarasamy, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, Mayor R. Ranganayaki and other officials were present at the event.
