Millet festival inaugurated in Krishnagiri
A grand millet festival was organised here shouldered by noon-meal workers as part of the ongoing campaign to spread the word on millets.
The millet festival witnessed noon-meal workers setting up stall from across the 10 blocks to underline the superiority of the humble millet that has been overtaken by rice and wheat.
Inaugurating the festival, Collector C. Dinesh Kumar drawing from the United Nation’s designation of the year 2023 as the International year of Millets, spoke on the nutritional value of millets and how it could go a long way in creating a healthy society that would not be a drain on resources.
Calling upon the public to routinely add millets to the daily diet at least a few times a week, he underlined the role of millets in reducing diabetes.
Earlier, the Collector felicitated student winners of the various contests to create awareness on millets. The millet culinary contest witnessed the first three prizes bagged by the noon-meal workers of Bargur, Krishnagiri and Vepanapalli respectively.
The noon-meal workers of Kelamangalam, Uthangarai and Shoolagiri blocks were felicitated for setting up novel stalls to attract attention.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
