BRS member K.T. Rama Rao sparks controversy in Telangana Assembly with remarks against government saying Congress MLAs call it 30% commissions government
A remark made by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) member and the party’s working president K.T. Rama Rao against the Telangana Government created a furore in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday (March 26, 2025).
The proceedings in the House were stalled for a few minutes as the members of the Treasury Benches led by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka insisted that Mr. Rao tender an apology for the comments. Panel Speaker Revuri Prakash Reddy, however, did not allow Mr. Rao to give his version of the development resulting in a walk out by the BRS members.
It all started when Mr. Rama Rao, who intervened during the discussion on demands for grants, expressed concern over the interruptions being caused in the House, particularly by the Ministers, while opposition members were speaking. “The Ministers should have restraint. They should listen to the Opposition members too. Their (Congress party’s) own MLAs are calling it a 30% commissions government while the talk of 20% commission for sanction of funds is heard in the Secretariat, the seat of administration,” he said resulting in angry reactions from the Treasury Benches.
Mr. Vikramarka expressed concern over the blanket statement issued by Mr. Rama Rao and said he should prove his claim or tender unconditional apology for his comments. “Contractors are suffering because of ₹1 lakh crore pending bills pertaining to the BRS Government. The member is not expected to make such blanket statements,” he said.
Advising the members to speak responsibly in the House, he alleged that Mr. Rao was misguiding the House as well as the people of the State. “We did not exploit the resources and looted the State,” he alleged. When Mr. Reddy said the comments would be expunged from the records claiming they were unparliamentary, BRS members led by T. Harish Rao trooped into the Well of the House demanding that the Chair given an opportunity to explain their point of view. However, Mr. Reddy refused to give the mike to the BRS members resulting in their walk out from the House.
