Passengers jump AFC gates at Jama Masjid metro station, DMRC investigating and considering filing police complaint.
After videos of several metro passengers jumping the automatic fare collection (AFC) gates at Jama Masjid metro station surfaced online, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said on Saturday that it was investigating the incident and would register a police complaint.
A 52-second clip shows passengers jumping over the AFC gates amid cheers, with many filming the act on their cellphones. The DMRC said the incident occurred on Thursday (February 13) when there was a temporary surge of passengers for a brief time.
“Security personnel and metro staff were adequately present, and the situation never went out of control,” it added.
"There was a temporary surge in the number of passengers for a brief period on Thursday evening when some of them bypassed the AFC gates by jumping over them to exit," said Anuj Dayal, the DMRC's principal executive director (corporate communications) while speaking with PTI.
"However, the DMRC has taken necessary cognisance of this matter as it is a breach of law and order. An investigation is being conducted to ensure that such incidents do not recur. The DMRC is interacting with the police authorities for the filing of an FIR," Mr. Dayal added.
