
In a first in State, Komatireddy inaugurates Glaucoma centre at a PHC

Minister inaugurates glaucoma centre in Nalgonda, plans for more centres across Telangana to provide vision care for the poor.
Roads, Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy inaugurated a glaucoma centre at the Kanagal PHC of Nalgonda district on Wednesday and said similar centres would be opened in the district soon.
The Minister said that this facility was being opened in a PHC for the first time in Telangana and this pilot project would be repeated across the State. The Centre will help poor people get their vision issues checked at an early stage. He said people used to rush to a corporate hospital spending huge money but now it is available at PHC.
Another glaucoma centre will be opened in Devarakonda constituency next week, the Minister said adding that the critical care unit built in Nalgonda Government Main Hospital will be opened by the end of this month. He also said that 59 doctors working on deputation in other areas from Nalgonda Government Hospital are being recalled.
Stating that poor people were being given support in treatment by the Congress government, he said that Letters of Credit (LoC) worth ₹1,600 crore were given in the last 15 months. The LoCs were given within 24 hours for expeditious treatment. However, from now onwards instead of treatment at private hospitals, the government will provide quality medicare at the four TIMS hospitals being constructed by the R&B department equipping them with best of facilities.
District Collector Ila Tripathi said in the coming week, 300 retinal images will be collected and their vision-related diseases will be tested using the facility.
