Telangana food safety task force uncovers hygiene violations at Hyderabad dairy units, including expired products and pest risks.
The task force teams of Telangana’s Commissioner of Food Safety conducted inspections at dairy units located in Hyderabad on December 20 and uncovered multiple hygiene violations.
At Durga Dairy Products in Sultan Bazar, inspectors found the ceilings flaky in some areas and the flooring patchy. The unit lacked proper drainage systems, and expired food products were discovered, including artificial flavouring agents, Flavouring items like vanilla and lemon were found to be expired and were immediately discarded. Additionally, the doors were not properly sealed, posing a risk of pest entry.
At NR Milk House in Amberpet, the internal structures made of iron sheets were rusty, and the flooring was uneven, patchy and waterlogged, emanating a foul smell. The facility had a single toilet that opened directly into the manufacturing area, creating a risk of contamination. Both manufacturing and storage were carried out in unhygienic conditions. Pest control measures appeared absent, as pests such as houseflies, mosquitoes and cockroaches were observed. The inspectors also noted waste bags, wooden logs and plastic containers dumped on the floor, further compromising hygiene, said a release.
The Cubbon Park administration has said that any event organised inside the park with over 20 participants need prior permission from the Horticulture Department and in some cases, even permission from the police. This comes after the row over organisers of Cubbon Reads, a reading community, being detained on Saturday, as several turned up for a Secret Santa party.
